1914,
Mr. North, a contractor, built St. Luke's Anglican
Church in Forest Lawn Village. It was located on the north
side of the #1 Highway (which was a trail then, but what we
now know as 17th Avenue SE) by Albert Park and was later moved
to the south side of the highway. Subsequently, it was sold
and became a Moslem worship centre before eventually being
demolished. The
first rector of St. Luke's Anglican Church was Rev. Attwood.
Eight pews filled the little church building. Mrs. Evans
donated the organ and was also the church's organist. She
was consequently replaced by Mr. Jones as church organist.
Mrs. Wright was the Sunday school teacher. Mrs. L. Lloyd
and the deacons helped in all phases of the church, as well
as being involved in the community's activities. As the
church started growing, the children of the area needed
a hall in which to hold functions. The young people got
busy and built a hall beside the church. Even though the
church never owned it, the area residents called it St.
Luke's hall. This hall served as school and social centre
of the community for many years.

Around
1961, a new church building was built on the corner of 16th
Avenue and 43rd St. SE. Between 1961 to 1980, St. Luke's
was pastored by five rectors: Rev. Turner, Rev. Brown, Rev.
John Twining, Rev. Earle Justice, and Rev. Fred Dykes.
By 1978, the existing building at 16th Avenue and 43rd Streets
had become too small for the growing congregation. As a
result, St. Luke's moved to a new building at 2951-26th
Avenue SE in Dover. While the church was being constructed,
the services were held for a year in 2 different school
gyms in the Forest Lawn-Dover area: Ian Bazalgette and the
Holy Cross School.
The
Rev. Robert (Bob) Reed became rector of St Luke's Anglican
Church in 1980, conducting his first service with the congregation
on Good Friday.
Other
pastors over the years were: Bishop Morse Goodman (interim),
1988-89; Rev. Bob Reed, 1989-91; Bishop Doug Ford (interim),
1991-92, assisted by Chris Jukes; Rev. John Torley, 1992-1995,
assisted by Deacon Chris Jukes; Rev. Chris Jukes, 1995-98;
Rev. Bob Reed, 1998-99, assisted by Rev. John Torley and
Rev. Charles Alexander; Rev. Bruce Ellis,
December 1999-November 2003, Father John Gishler (interim),
